61-year-old American engineer Michael Hughes, a man who sincerely believes that the Earth is flat, decided to prove his theory. Last weekend, he took off on his own steam engine Flat Earth rocket. The goal was to view the planet from above, but the flight lasted only a couple of minutes. Michael Hughes claimed that the Earth was flat as a frisbee and planned to prove it using his rocket. Last year, the state authorities forbade the experimenter to launch an aircraft from private territory, so he still decided to go flying from the Mojave desert. He called journalists with him. Hughes flew to 570 meters and began to fall. Despite the use of primary and secondary parachutes, the landing was not soft – the “astronaut” informed the doctors about back pain. So far, the enthusiast did not give up his beliefs. Mike plans to build a rocket with a new launch system. The device will be equipped with a ball filled with gas, which will separate from it in the air. Such a mechanism, Hughes is sure, will help to fly 109 km to better consider the shape of the home planet. A new launch is scheduled for August this year.
