Should I re-create the wheel? It seemed that humanity had answered this question for a long time: “No!” But the Israeli startup REE thinks differently. He proposed a completely new approach to the development of electric vehicles, which consists in the fact that all the main components from the usual place for them under the hood are moved inside the wheels. This information was voiced by REE CEO Daniel Barel and described the meaning of this new approach as follows: “Until now, the industry has worked on the principle of gradually improving the traditional design of vehicles. At REE, we believe that to accelerate the automotive revolution, we need to reinvent the wheel – literally. ” He expressed confidence that the innovation will open up new opportunities for manufacturers who rightly believe that the future lies with modular cars. REE showcases its prefabricated automotive platform at TechCrunch Mobility 2019 in California. It has the appearance of a small platform with four wheels, in which all the important working elements of the car are placed. Using such a ready-made platform, automakers will be able to build any type of electric car (from a golf car to a pickup truck). The process of releasing new models will become much simpler and cheaper, since, according to the same Daniel Barel, the largest costs for car manufacturers are to develop and test the platform. “We,” he notes, “suggest using one ready-made version.” Neither the REE developers have yet to release the technical characteristics of the platform or the timing of its entry into mass production.
