Scientists for the first time in history in real time have witnessed the appearance of a superdense object far from the borders of our galaxy. Most likely, it is a neutron star or a black hole. The event, designated AT2018cow, is unique in that until this moment, objects of this kind were studied only many years after their appearance. It happened in the constellation Hercules. So, the Hawaiian astronomers with the help of the telescope Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System were lucky to fix a flash in space, the brightness of which is ten times higher than the performance of an ordinary explosion of a star or the appearance of a supernova. Having studied in detail the surroundings of this incident, scientists discovered an object with increased density. Until they have decided what they are dealing with: a neutron star or a black hole. Researchers will continue to monitor the development of the object, trying to figure out what happens with phenomena of this type immediately after birth. The possibility of this kind of scientists received for the first time in history. So far, they have recorded x-ray radiation, the power of which is ten times higher than that of conventional analogues. This means that something in the supernova absorbs matter, similar to how it happens in black holes. Astronomers cannot yet explain the reasons for such an object’s brightness. As a rule, supernovae need weeks to reach maximum brightness. By cosmic standards, the explosion occurred relatively close to us, “only” 200 million light-years from Earth. In any case, as the experts are sure, their observations will allow revising many theories.
