The solution to one of the most pressing problems in oncology – the early diagnosis of the appearance of metastases in the lymph nodes of the breast, will be helped by the artificial intelligence software package created by Google Research. Researchers achieved practical detection of pathological changes with a confidence of 89 percent, while practicing pathologists show a result of 73%. During the studies, biopsy images from the medical center of the University of Nijmegen (Netherlands) were used. The created system made it possible to diagnose the occurrence of cancer with a higher degree of reliability than pathologists could do. Researchers from Google Research claim that the recognition of metastases in the chest was 89%, which is 16 percent higher than that of practicing diagnosticians. At the same time, there is a lower effectiveness of the AI system in the diagnosis of benign education. Therefore, at this stage, the joint work of doctors and artificial intelligence from Google will show the greatest efficiency for the diagnosis and classification of benign and malignant neoplasms. Google’s developments in the field of diagnosis of skin diseases have already been used at Stanford University. For these purposes, over 127 thousand images of skin pathologies with a clear identification of malignant and benign diseases were presented to artificial intelligence. As a result, the program was able to diagnose new skin diseases with a higher degree of reliability than dermatologists.
