The first successes in solving the problem of trembling footage when shooting with a smartphone camera were achieved by Google experts, who demonstrated a software package that eliminates the negative from shaking hands in the Pixel / Pixel XL. OnePlus developers decided to surpass the competition and created their own digital image stabilization algorithm, which is close or even superior in quality to optical stabilization. The OxygenOS v4.5.7 update released a week earlier allowed the OnePlus 5 smartphone to support digital stabilization when shooting in Ultra HD format. The demonstrated results of such stabilization show a clear improvement in video quality and a decrease in the effect of hand shake. The OnePlus 5 was able to outperform its rivals Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S8 in terms of image quality in 4K video shooting, which confirmed its unofficial nickname “flagship killer”. True, when updating, the viewing angles of the camera slightly decreased, but this fact is offset by a decrease in image defects from shaking hands and brings the quality of video recording closer to shooting using a stationary tripod.
