Facebook has decided to curtail work on the creation of solar-powered drones to distribute the Internet in remote regions of the world. The project started back in 2014, but failed to achieve significant results. The first Aquila project was tested in 2016. The drone came out with technical errors and could not fully land, which led to a trial with the US National Transportation Safety Council. The second test flight was successful, but still far from ideal. So without seeing a good result, Facebook decided to stop the project. Moreover, in addition to Fb, several corporations (including Google) and many independent organizations are involved in similar projects.
