The personal data of 6,400 military and intelligence officers became available due to the vulnerability of the Finnish fitness app Polar Flow. Without the help of hackers, reporters from Bellingcat and De Correspondent were able to independently find vulnerabilities in the application’s security and get addresses, names and photos of special services. Using the Explore map, they found users in the area of the White House, the National Security Agency, MI-6 and almost fifty nuclear weapons storage sites. Polar Flow is used to collect data from smart watches, weights, fitness bracelets and bike computers. Information can be synchronized with the Polar Flow database to track your statistics in your personal account. But even with a closed profile, journalists were able to reveal photos of users along with their personal information.
