Google closes Tango AR project

Google closes Tango AR project Google finally decided to close Project Tango, which was introduced three years ago. The technology is based on a three-dimensional spatial modeling system, with its help mobile gadgets are able to create a detailed 3-dimensional spatial map, updating it in real time. For example, the application tells you the best route through the store, helps in the selection and arrangement of furniture, or immerses you in a game in which the player moves, just like in reality. The nuance is that cameras with special sensors must be installed in the gadget to work with Project Tango . Only two devices support this platform among those released during its existence: Asus ZenFone AR and Lenovo Phab 2 Pro. This year, Google has implemented all the achievements of Tango in ARCore, a new platform. The application does not need any special equipment – just a camera with motion sensors. By tracking the movement of objects, the system analyzes the horizontal plane, the presence and direction of light sources, as well as captures virtual objects in real time. In other words, the corporation did not stop working with augmented reality. In an official announcement, company representatives thanked the development team that made incredible progress in Tango over the past three years. AR development will continue in the ARCore application. Project Tango will cease to exist from the first days of spring of the coming year.
