Google has released Android 10. The update is available for Pixel smartphones of all generations and will be ported to devices from different manufacturers in the coming days, weeks, months and years.
In Android 10, a dark theme appeared, which applies to the system and some applications of Google and third-party developers.
A new navigation system for OS and applications has also been added. It was already in Android 9.0, but now it has slightly changed and received several new gestures, which in theory should make switching between applications more convenient, but can cause discomfort for those who are used to the previous navigation. It is known that by default gestures will be disabled in third-party launchers and shells, Google will allow you to return the usual buttons (return, home page, multitasking).
The Smart Reply function, as before, allows you to reply to various messengers with hint phrases through notifications, but now it can automatically redirect the user to various applications via direct links from notifications (for example, open sites in Chrome, launch maps or enable video on YouTube) .
A new update scheme has been implemented. Now, security patches can be installed through the Play Store, bypassing updates to the entire operating system. This will speed up the installation of small but critical patches.
Android 10 at the native level supports folding smartphones, automatically changing the application interface to them. But there are no folding smartphones on Android 10, so it’s impossible to check how this feature works.
In the future, Android 10 will implement a focus mode that allows you to pause receiving notifications from applications. In the fall, the updated Android will learn to automatically display subtitles when watching videos and listening to audio in foreign languages.
