Swiss scientists have confirmed the thesis of the equivalent benefits of electric bicycles and ordinary bicycles. The study involved overweight people, who were required to travel 6 km 3 times a week. The results were unexpected. Specialists from the University of Basel in Switzerland conducted a study using 32 people (28 of them men) with varying degrees of obesity and a body mass index of 28 to 29 (norm 18-24). Within 4 weeks, half of the participants rode on ordinary bicycles, the second half – on electric bicycles. Moreover, each participant in the experiment chose the optimal speed of movement for themselves. Kilometers were tracked by GPS sensors. The researchers were interested in the oxygen absorption power indicator, which is a sensor of aerobic performance and reveals how efficiently the body absorbs and uses oxygen. As it turned out, the type of bike does not matter, both groups showed the same result. That rehabilitates electric bicycles and puts them on the level of fitness efficiency on a par with the usual. Although experts decided to double-check some indicators, the result nevertheless coincides with the findings of a two-year-old study on the effectiveness of electric bikes.
