The idea to create tunnels under Los Angeles came up with Elon Musk while driving along city streets overloaded with cars. To implement the plan, the entrepreneur founded the drilling company The Boring Company. Now the billionaire has shared a diagram of the network of tunnels that will be laid under the city if everything goes as planned and the country’s authorities will not continue to obstruct. Technically, the Mask tunnels will be organized as follows: special electrified platforms will transport cars at a speed of about 241 km / h (150 miles per hour). People without their cars will be able to move in special trains plying in the same tunnels. In the future, developers from The Boring Company plan to use these same tunnels to implement yet another idea of the Mask – Hyperloop vacuum trains moving at a speed of 1125 km / h (700 mph). For testing, it is planned to construct a ten-kilometer section of an underground tunnel. An experimental tunnel is also used to obtain approval and necessary permits from the authorities. Subsequently, this site will become part of the Los Angeles public transport network created by Elon Musk. In the diagram demonstrated by The Boring Company, the pilot site is shown in red. In the case of successful tests and the issuance of the necessary permits, the network will be supplemented by tunnels depicted in blue lines on the map. The total length of potential underground tracks will be about 100 km (for example, the operational length of the Moscow metro lines exceeds 346 km). At present, a 150-meter section of the experimental tunnel is already ready. Mask’s future plans include the construction of the Chicago Underground Tunnel and the tunnel between New York and Washington.
