Pebble Technologies began accepting orders for one of the models of its Pebble Time Steel smart watch, the money for the creation of which was raised using crowdfunding. Of the noticeable advantages over competitors – a larger battery (the watch lasts up to seven days without recharging, for comparison, Apple Watch – a maximum of two days). In addition, Time Steel has a color display on electronic ink, which also contributes to longer battery life. Moreover, their cost ranges from 250 to 300 dollars (depending on the version of the strap in the kit – leather or steel). The device is a more advanced version of the standard Pebble Time model and differs in that it is completely made of steel. Time Steel is thicker and heavier than the younger model, but has an improved display.
The watch is compatible with more than 6.5 thousand applications written for the previous model.
A microphone is integrated into the device, which allows it to recognize voice commands. The watch is also waterproof – it can be immersed to a depth of 30 meters. Available in black, red, gray, white and gold colors. Shipping the gadget around the world will take from six to eight weeks, the company says. Those who donate money through the Kickstarter campaign will receive their smartwatches earlier than others – they will be sent to customers this week. Pebble Technologies completed the fundraising for the production of the next generation of their smartwatches in March this year.
The product was supported financially by more than 78.4 thousand people.
The company managed to collect at Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel 40 times the declared amount – over $ 20.3 million. The necessary 500 thousand dollars were raised just 33 minutes after the start of the campaign, and after 49 minutes the amount reached a million. When the amount of donations exceeded the mark of 13.4 million dollars, Pebble Time became the most successful product on Kickstarter in the entire history of the site.
