At the beginning of winter, Sberbank will be able to start issuing a driver’s license with a special microchip. It will contain information about the driver, his fingerprints, electronic signature and photo. Sberbank is conducting this pilot project together with the Ministry of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Communications. The technology that allows you to issue a driver’s license with a chip, according to the words of Sberbank Senior Vice President Anatoly Popov, has already been approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is likely that in a test mode biometric rights will begin to function earlier. The company also plans to issue an identity card that will replace a paper passport. More far-reaching plans include the introduction of a single card that replaces all documents. With its help it will be possible to draw up a number of legal documents and receive public services remotely. The entire population of Russia is planning to provide such a card by 2019. A similar card functions in Europe, replacing a civil and international passport. It contains all the basic information about a citizen.
