Carbon Engineering is a company from Canada, whose engineers proposed a new technology. It will allow direct production of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Their work has already been published in the scientific publication Joule. Carbon dioxide is extracted from the atmosphere through a series of chemical reactions. They plan to pump air into fans in special cooling towers. Next, the design starts interaction with an alkaline solution. The liquid, having frozen, is slowly warming up. As a result, carbon dioxide will be released, which can be used to produce gasoline. Such fuel will cost more than traditional analogs, however, the price of the product can be explained by its “environmental cleanliness”. Such gas production will cost from 94 to 232 dollars per ton. Carbon Engineering can be compared with similar projects that produce carbon dioxide from the air. The novelty is about 10 times cheaper than competing technologies. It is stated that the technique will not upset the balance of carbon dioxide in nature, on the contrary, it will reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. For three years, engineers want to build the first carbon dioxide-producing plant using a new technique.
