The first development of the passenger octocopter SureFly was announced in the summer of 2017. Now Workhorse has announced its readiness to demonstrate the first flight of the transporter at the regular Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which will be held in January 2018 in Las Vegas. The personal octocopter is equipped with gas and electric engines and is made of carbon fiber. Designed for the transport of two people or similar cargo. This vehicle is positioned as a city air taxi. The mass of the device does not exceed 500 kg, and it will be able to transport weight up to 181 kg. The radius of the flight is not more than 70 km, the maximum speed is 113 km / h. Four electric motors with eight propellers are located on four wings. The screws, paired on one wing, rotate in opposite directions, which ensures stability during flight. Electric motors are started using a gas engine, or run on two lithium batteries in the event of a gas generator failure. The final version of SureFly provides for the installation of an emergency parachute for landing in the event of a breakdown of all octocopter engines. You can control the octocopter in manual mode (when transporting two people) with a joystick or independently from the ground. Estimated cost of SureFly at the beginning of sales in 2020 will be about 200 thousand dollars. Certification by licensing authorities should be completed by the end of 2019.
