Lockheed Martin (USA) has tested a combat laser system, which today is considered one of the most powerful in the world. Work on the complex, taking into account the requirements of the US Army, began three years ago, and the tests became the final stage before the complex was put into service. According to the project, the power of the combat laser reaches 60 kW, and during the test tests it amounted to 58 kW, that is, almost the same as stated. It works on the basis of the principle of spectral combining of fiber lasers, so that even with low-power emitters it is possible to obtain a huge output beam. Compared with its predecessors, solid-state lasers, it consumes half the energy. The new complex is capable of hitting aircraft, helicopters and even boats, along with missiles, shells and drones. Previous versions of laser systems, which were developed in the USA, had much lower power, in the range of 15-30 kW. For the destruction of drones and similar air targets, this was enough. In any case, in the video presented by Lockheed Martin in 2015, a 30-kilowatt laser “gun” burned a hole in a car located 2 km from it. A tested combat laser system can compete with ground-to-air missiles . In addition, the US military, judging by press reports, plans to install them on AC-130J Ghostrider aircraft.
