Atomexpo-2017 is the ninth large-scale event. Almost a hundred enterprises, both domestic and foreign, participated in it. They presented a lot of interesting technological samples. Rosatom was among the leaders. He introduced the transportation and levitation module, assembled the hull of VVER-1200, a nuclear reactor, and created an impressive prototype of a nuclear floating station. Of particular interest was the nuclear battery shown by Rosatom, which could easily work for at least half a century. It was developed by FSUE NII NPO Luch, owned by Rosatom. This is a test copy of a non-hazardous small nutritional source. It is based on the isotope Ni-63. The general director of FSUE NII NPO Luch, Pavel Zaitsev, assures that this battery, although it has moderate ampere-voltage characteristics, can claim to be an alternative to the nutritional bases for pacemakers used by doctors. Only one such sample can be operated in the region of half a century. True, how much such a device will cost is still unclear even approximately. After all, it must be borne in mind that the raw materials used to create the nuclear battery are quite expensive. Zaitsev also mentioned this: even a gram of Ni-63 is very expensive – about $ 4,000. The price of any diamond element is in the range from ten to hundreds of thousands of rubles. Pavel Zaitsev, however, did not announce what the final cost of a nuclear battery ready for operation is. He refers to the fact that now there are only experimental models. They are not provided for sale.
