After the advent of the Fairphone modular smartphone, which is popular among interested consumers, it came to the appearance of other gadgets with a modular system. The baton was picked up by a team of engineers and designers who offer to finance through Kickstarter the release of the world’s first modular smart watch Blocks. The gadget interacts with mobile devices based on iOS and Android and allows the user to select the functionality that is needed. Additional modules are installed in the bracelet as part of the replaced link. Now elements with a battery (20% of additional charge per module), with a sensor for monitoring heart rate, with GPS, with NFC for contactless payments, as well as a unit for tracking height, pressure and temperature are already available. The basic smartwatch module received a color round touchscreen display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a microphone for voice control, a 1.5-day battery, and sensors to track user activity. Blocks run on a modified version of Android, but not Android Wear. For $ 195, you can get a basic smart watch module and a simple strap. Additional items are purchased separately or as a set along with Blocks for $ 275. In the future, it is planned to release modules with a SIM card, a fingerprint sensor, LEDs for a flashlight, a programmable button and the like.
