Toshiba Launches 16 TB Hard Drive Range MG08

Toshiba выпустила линейку жёстких дисков MG08 ёмкостью 16 ТБ Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH announces the release of MG08, the Enterprise Capacity family of hard drives. The new product has the largest capacity in the industry 16 TB technology Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR). MG08 16 TB drives are compatible with a wide range of applications and operating systems and are adapted for mixed and sequential workloads when reading and writing, making them suitable for use in cloud and traditional data centers. MG08 is the second generation of Toshiba hard drives with helium filling and the eighth generation of the Enterprise Capacity family. “Toshiba introduced an industry breakthrough 16 TB capacity and improved energy efficiency through the use of a 9-disk helium design, which debuted last year in 14 TB models. We also used our own advanced precision laser welding technology, which provides helium sealing inside the drive housing, ”said Larry Martinez-Palomo, CEO of Toshiba Electronics Europe’s HDD division. MG08 range provides 7200 rpm rotation, 550 workload TB per year, MTTF 2.5 million hours, 512 MiB cache buffers and SATA and SAS interfaces – all in the industry-standard 3.5-inch form factor. The MG08 Series is yet another confirmation of Toshiba’s commitment to developing Hard disk drive to meet the growing demand for storage devices that are suitable for use in cloud servers and storage infrastructure. As data storage continues to grow rapidly, the industry-leading 16 TB CMR capacity will help cloud service providers and storage solutions developers achieve higher storage densities in cloud, hybrid cloud, and on-premises rack storage. Larry Martinez-Palomo of Toshiba Electronics Europe adds: “With enhanced energy efficiency and 16TB capacity, the MG08 Series can help lower the total cost of ownership of a storage infrastructure designed for data protection, big data aggregation, content maintenance, and digital archiving.” .The delivery of 16 TB MG08 series drives will begin in the first quarter of 2019.
