Without any warning or announcement, Apple made a change in a number of products in its own online store. The first update in three and a half years was the iPad mini, now equipped with a more powerful A12 Bionic chip and the ability to support the work with the Apple Pencil digital pen. The A12 Bionic processor (2018 model) replaced the A8 chip created in 2014. In addition, the quality of work of the 7.9-inch Retina-screen has been significantly improved: the brightness has been increased by 25%, the ability to display more colors has been increased, and support for Apple TrueTone technology has been introduced to adjust the brightness of the picture to the ambient light. The display resolution is 2048 × 1536 pixels, and ppi (pixel density) is 326 dpi. The front camera is significantly improved, it received a 7 megapixel (f / 2.2) module instead of 1.2 megapixels, the rear one is represented by an 8 megapixel lens with f / 2.4 aperture. The headphone jack and Touch ID sensor are saved, stereo speakers are present in the audio subsystem. The amount of memory is also increased to 64 GB. At the same time, the cost of the tablet remained the same – 399 dollars. When adding an LTE module, the gadget rises in price to $ 529, and an increase in memory capacity up to 256 GB will lead to a price of $ 549 (when equipped with an LTE module, the price will increase to $ 679). The dimensions of the device are 203.2 × 134.8 × 6.1 mm, with a weight of approximately 300 g. The declared battery life is 10 hours. Improvements have also been made to the 10.5-inch iPad Air tablet with support for the Apple Pencil digital pen. Introduced Apple Pencil support and upgraded the processor to the Apple A12 Bionic chip. Thus, the iPad Air stands in performance between the previous iPad model with a 9.7-inch display and tablets of the Pro lineup with an A12X processor. Unlike Pro series devices, iPad Air uses Touch ID biometric identification (in Pro – Face ID) through a front 7-megapixel camera and Lightning connection (in Pro – USB-C). The Touch ID sensor is also saved. The screen resolution of the device is 2224 × 1668 pixels, ppi reaches 264, and the brightness is 500 cd / m2. The rear camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.4. Among other components are: Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac wireless modules, GPS + GLONASS navigation systems, stereo speakers, light sensor, barometer, accelerometer, gyroscope and electronic compass. Operating time on one battery charge – 10 hours. The base model of the Apple iPad Air is equipped with 64 GB of main memory and is priced at $ 499. When capturing the amount of internal memory up to 256 GB, the price rises to $ 649. Equipping a tablet with an LTE module will lead to an increase in price by $ 130. Of the additional accessories, it is worth noting the Smart Keyboard, which will cost $ 159.
