VR technology is used not only in the gaming field, with its help a group of scientists from Oxward developed a methodology for ridding people of fear of heights. Specialists created a game in which the patient rises along the floors of a skyscraper and at each level he has a task that will require to overcome the fear of heights: either save the cat, then go along the edge of the cliff and other bold tasks. With each new floor, the difficulty level of tasks increases. According to the psychotherapist, such a game contributes to the accumulation of positive experience with height, so in the future the patient feels less constrained when meeting with height in the real world. 100 people participated in the experiment, of which 49 took part in treatment, the rest did not receive any. Before and after treatment, patients filled out a questionnaire that indicated the stages of fear of heights. After completing the course of virtual treatment, the fear of heights decreased by 25 points in people, and patients noted that they could now go to places where they would not have dared before. The effect of the treatment was also confirmed 2 weeks after the VR-treatment. For the curious, we suggest watching a video about the Bandai Namco-created VR-development, in which the participant needs to save a kitten in a difficult situation.
